I Won a Book!

I won a book from Goodreads! I think this is the first time I’ve really won anything so I wanted to share it with you guys and let you know, that you could potentially win free books!

So I heard about the Goodreads giveaways a few months ago on some other blogs and I decided to check out the giveaway site. It seems to be mostly used by publishing houses and some independent authors to hype up their books, and give away some finished or ARC copies.  It’s actually a pretty fun way to take a look at some upcoming releases that you might not have been aware of!

So for the past few months I’ve been periodically checking the site, and entering to win on books that look interesting. But, I hadn’t checked the site for about a month and sort of forgot about it. Until 2 weeks ago when I found a book in a package at my door. Honestly when I first got it I was so confused. It had my name and my address but I knew I hadn’t ordered anything, and I was like who is this mysterious book sender?

So to break this confusion I opened the box to find An Ocean of Minutes by Thea Lim and I recognized the cover right away and realized I had won a free book! Which really made my day, because I’ve really never won any online giveaways in my life! I’ve just finished the book and I’ll write a review shortly, but to be short I really loved the book! So it’s pretty much the best of both worlds!

When I was first checking the site I was a bit discouraged to see that as a Canadian there are only so many books available to me, but as I continued to browse I realized that the Canada only contests had far fewer people entering which increases your chances of winning, and highlights Canadian authors (insert your country here!).

Overall, I’m really happy to have won a free book and I just wanted to share the experience with you guys! Hope you have a wonderful day!

If you have checked out the site or won any free books by any method I’d love to hear about it!

  1. The same thing happened to me in December! I got an email saying I was a winner and I was so shocked. Like you said, being Canadian there are far less options for us, but I too got a book by a Canadian author and loved it! Glad you had a similar good experience 🙂
