I always find little quirks people have about their reading habits to be so interesting, so I thought I’d ask another question! Do you have a favourite time of the day to do your reading?
Personally, I’m a night owl and have pretty much always been, because of this I tend to do most of my reading at night. However, this often leads to later night than I anticipate as I always try to finish another chapter or just get to the end of the book. And before I know it, it is the morning and I have gotten little to no sleep—but I always end up doing it again!
Another reason I enjoy reading at night is because it allows me to go to class and get whatever assignments I need finished before I can start reading. I’m a bit of a marathon reader, so I like to get things finished before I sit down for a good chunk of hours!
I do think it would be lovely to start reading early in the morning! I imagine it would be so nice to sit in the morning sun with a coffee and start the day off right with a book. I may have to challenge myself to do some more day time reading after my move next month, when I will actually have windows in my apartment!
So do you guys have a favourite time of the day to read? Or do you just read whenever? I’d love to hear from you guys!
Hope you have a wonderful day!
I do most of my reading at night because I work during the day. But sometimes if I don’t have anything to do on the weekend (or if I’m off) it’s really nice to do some morning reading!

For me, it’s often “when I am in the mood” though it’s more frequent for me to read in the evening, starting sometime after dinner and ending when I feel like going to sleep – I learned to not push it much over my usual bedtime.

I love to read any time when I am alone. However, reading an interesting novel in the afternoon after my lunch gives me the greatest feel ever. Cause with contented stomach, all I need is an interesting story for a contented mind.

I often read while eating my dinner and also at night before I go to sleep. I used to always watch an hour or so of TV in the evening as a “reward” for finishing my work, but lately I’ve been doing more reading during that time, as well. I suppose it depends on how connected I’m feeling with my current book.

You are a better multi-tasker than I! Reading an hour before bed sounds lovely !

I start reading with breakfast and read whenever I can until about midnight or later. I have books everywhere, so it’s easy to pick one up, no matter where I am. I read in the car, I read everywhere and anytime. It’s just what I do. I’ve actually read while blow drying my hair. 🙂 LOL

That sounds like a really good way to read! Though I would be so bad at drying my hair and reading at the same time lol

Definitely takes longer. Holding a book can hurt your hand…LOL Believe me, I know. I don’t do that often, just when I’m at the very end of something and can’t wait to see what happens. I try not to read more than three or four books at the same time either. It’s not that it’s too confusing, I just feel as if I’m not finishing anything fast enough.

I could read all day and everyday if my job allowed it. But I don’t work in publishing or anything like that, so usually mornings or evenings and weekends 🙂

Well, I imagine working at a job where you are reading all day, reading might become a bit duller. So it is quite nice to have it as a treat! 🙂

I work in the afternoons, so I do most of my reading in the morning. Even now that it’s the summer break, I still keep the habit of reading in the morning and I know that if I start reading in the morning,it will be a good reading day. I also read a bit in the bed before I fall asleep, so I can understand what you say about ending up staying till late!

I used to be such a night time reader, especially when I was a waitress as I often worked late anyway. Nowadays I get most of my reading done in my lunch hour after work, or after I get out of the shower!

My favorite time of the day to read is right before bed too, I’m the same way as you are! I do also like reading right when I wake up, too, before I get up & start my day!

Morning with the daily newspaper. Every night I read my book however as I don’t sleep too long there is something special reading at 3 or 4am curled up under one of my quilts especially during the winter and still be reading when the sun comes up.

My reading time is more random but I do keep fiction dedicated to evenings before bed as it helps stimulate my imagination and even bring on dreaming. Non fiction is more during the day.

I tend to lose sleep during the late night/early morning hours, which ends up making me sleepy during most of the day. I usually don’t have my full energy until about 6 or 7 in the evening, so these days I do most of my reading during the evening hours, when I’m at my most alert.

My favorite time of the day is at night! Probably because I feel more at peace during that time of the day haha

I’m definitely a night owl, which means I love reading before bed. Because I never learn my lesson. It’s always, “Oh, just one more chapter,” and suddenly I have an hour left before I have to get up for the day and 50 pages until the book is done and I’ve just decided to become a zombie because it seems more practical.

Sometimes if I have a quiet breakfast to myself before work I’ll be able to get through a couple of pages. Mostly though I read in the afternoon, when the sun is still up so I can read by natural light. And hopefully nobody else will be home from work yet. Then I can be completely absorbed in what I’m reading.

And also reading on commutes- nothing quite like sitting down in a train or a plane and knowing there is really nothing else to do for you other than read as much as you can…

I have a very romantic idea of when I would *like* to read and it usually involves me reading a book over a leisurely cup of tea either at my breakfast bar in the morning before work or in bed at the weekend.
What actually happens is that I read on the train on my commute in and out of work (and in the evening that’s me pressed against some bodies) and then if I can’t put the book down – trying to read it and simultaneously cook dinner!
But I love when I have a lazy, rainy Sunday than I can and will read all day 🙂

Reblogged this on John's Notes and commented:
I think that this raises an interesting question – When do you read the most?
Myself, I like to take some time each morning while I drink my coffee and read. Of course, depending on the schedule for the day and the book I am reading that might be as little as 30 minutes or as much as a couple of hours or more.
I also set aside time in the afternoon after I have taken my walk to read for a while while I cool down (I don’t walk slowly). And of course, I spend some time in the evening reading before bed. Lately, I have ignored the TV and spent evening hours with one of my books as well.
As the originator of this post asked, When do you read?

I like to read whenever I can grab some quiet time, but I do most of my reading at night. I like the above comment — if I can have a rainy Sunday, I will read all day long.
