I’m always looking for spooky seasonal reads at this time of year and I thought it might be nice to make a list of some of my favourites. So here is a list of a few books that I think either are spooky and or fit into the Halloween spirit! I’ll link to the Goodreads page if any catch your eye and I’ll include a link to one of my reviews if I have one posted! So I hope you get some inspiration for autumn/Halloween reading!
These are in no particular order but I have tried to group them by author! Enjoy!
Salem’s Lot by Stephen King
A vampire story by the master of horror!
The Witches of New York by Ami McKay Review
A wonderfully warm witch-y tale!
Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury
Bradbury is honestly synonymous with fall to me!
The October Country by Ray Bradbury
A collection of fall short stories that are all wonderfully autumnal.
The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury
I mean I think the title says it all!
Penguin Book of Witches by Katherine Howe
A non-fiction look at the realities of the Salem witch trials, if you are a history buff it’s full of really enlightening primary documents from the time.
Horns by Joe Hill
One of my favourite all time books, but personally I’d skip the movie.
Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill
When I think of this book I can’t help think of Halloween.
20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill
A classic collection of original ghost stories, this book reminds me of staying up late while reading ghosts tales as a child!
Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch Review
Magical realism at its best!
Do Zombies Dream Of Undead Sheep? by Timothy Verstynen and Bradley Voytek
The neuroscience perspective of how zombies brains would work if they did exist!
Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion
A surprisingly adorable zombie story!
World War Z by Max Brooks
Completely different from the movie, this book is absolutely riveting and terrifying!
Hocus Pocus & The All New Sequel by A.W. Jantha
For fans of the movie I think the novelization is a must read!
Dark Tales by Shirley Jackson Review
I adore this book and would recommend it to anyone!
Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson Review
A famous haunting story for a reason, I just finished it and I loved it!
Rosemary’s Baby by Ira Levin
A classic spooky story, and beautifully written!
That’s it! I hope you found a few new things that look interesting! Also, if any one has any other fall/Halloween recommendations I’d love to hear about them! Oh, and if you guys enjoy this listing format please let me know, I may compile a list of specifically witch-y reads next!
Have a spooky day!
I found “The picture of Dorian Gray” a good read for gloomy days.

Ah ha! Often the case with film adaptations. They can be tricky.

You might have a better time finding it online. I’m not sure if it’s available on DVD. But it’s a cult favourite.

Great picks! I actually liked the movie Horns and didn’t realize it was based on a book – I’ll have to check it out one day.

I loved all of the actors! I just was so confused about which parts they took from the book and large parts they ignored lol!
